The creative tech & production company animated title sequences and assets for their first international co-production.

Seoul, South Korea, February 26 2025 — On Thursday, February 26, at exactly 9:50 p.m., animated singers, guitarists, and world landmarks danced across South Korean TVs as Duet Beyond Borders premiered on KBS 2TV. The reality show’s opening title sequence, set to inspiring music, was animated by CoPilot Co. as part of an international co-production with Korean Broadcasting System (KBS).

Duet Beyond Borders is our first international co-production,” said Austin MacKay, co-founder of CoPilot. “We’re beyond excited to have worked on this project with one of the biggest entertainment and media companies in Asia.”

Duet Beyond Borders is a multi-national co-production between South Korea, the Netherlands, Vietnam, and CoPilot’s home nation, Canada. The reality show follows musical artists Park Ki-Young and KCM as they travel around the world to collaborate with local artists in the Netherlands and Vietnam to produce a duet track.

The two companies collaborated across time zones over the course of six months to create the opening title sequence and all animated assets throughout the show. Discussions of the co-production began during the 2025 Canadian Creative Industries Trade Mission to East Asia, but CoPilot co-founder Reid Valmestad traces the project’s origins back a year further.

“We met the producers at KBS during the 2024 Team Canada Trade Mission to South Korea. Returning on another trade mission a year later, our priority was strengthening the relationships we formed in 2024,” said Valmestad. “Meaningful relationships are how projects like this happen.”

Foreign location and service production (FLS) projects accounted for 56% of the total production volume in Canada during the April 2022 to March 2023 period, thanks in large part to national and provincial tax incentives for international collaborations.

Projects registered as Treaty Co-Productions with Telefilm Canada could be eligible for the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit (CPTC), which offers a 25% credit on Canadian labour costs. Co-ventures (unofficial co-productions that don’t meet treaty requirements) and Service Productions (foreign productions that use services provided by Canadian companies) could take advantage of the 16% tax credit offered by the Production Service Tax Credit (PSTC)

As a Manitoba-based company, CoPilot’s co-productions could also qualify for the province’s Film and Video Production Tax Credit

The co-production is set to air every Thursday on KBS2.
