AVRO XR Studio is Manitoba’s first ground-level virtual production facility.
Winnipeg, Manitoba, July 17, 2025 — Winnipeg’s AVentPro and CoPilot Co. have partnered to launch AVRO XR Studio, Manitoba’s first ground-level virtual production studio. The studio’s tier-based pricing and ground-level garage door entrance makes virtual production a viable option for both local and international productions in Manitoba.
“We’ve all heard about virtual production for Tier-A Hollywood movies and shows, but we think there’s untapped potential with the technology for small to medium productions,” said Austin MacKay, co-founder of CoPilot Co. “Our purpose-built LED volume is the perfect size for shooting car processing scenes for film, as well as corporate, commercial, and indie productions.”
Virtual production is a filmmaking technique that blends physical and digital elements in real-time using LED walls and game engine technology. Many virtual production studios feature massive, 80-100 ft LED volumes with bloated studio day rates, making them unrealistic for small to medium sized productions.
In comparison, AVRO XR features a moderate 30 ft x 16 ft LED volume, allowing for accessible, tier-based pricing while providing enough space for a range of shots.
“Having a purpose-built, ground-level virtual production studio in Manitoba will help our local productions become more competitive and make the province a more attractive filming destination for international productions,” said Reid Valmestad, co-founder of CoPilot.
In 2024, Manitoba generated a record-breaking $434.9 million in estimated production volume, due in large part to the province’s generous film & video production tax credit.
“Before AVRO XR, the province didn’t have a ground-level virtual production facility,” said Valmestad. “Directors, producers, and production companies looking for studios that can accommodate car plates and large set pieces had to look elsewhere.”
Car processing, also known as car or driving plates, are background videos that simulate environments whizzing past moving cars. When a car is placed in front of a car plate on an LED wall, production teams can create the illusion of a car in motion.
AVRO XR provides ample space for cars and large set pieces. Situated in AVentPro’s new industrial space, the studio features large ground-level garage doors followed by an 8 ft x 7 ft entrance into the main studio space.

CoPilot and AVentPro celebrated the grand opening of AVRO XR on Wednesday, July 16th at C-635 Rue Camiel Sys Street. The launch event featured a tour of the studio, a hands-on demo of the tech, and networking opportunities for local industry professionals.
